Surrounded entirely by South Africa, the enclave of Lesotho is led by Prime Minister Tom Motsoahae Thabane. More than 75 percent of the population, comprised mostly of the Basotho people, lives in rural areas and supports itself by farming. Even so, almost 40 percent of the country lives below the poverty line. Other main industries are livestock, manufacturing and mining and the country is rife with water and diamonds.
