The Serbian language is a variety of the Serbo-Croatian language. Used mainly by Serbians in the areas of Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Regular/standard Serbian is mostly based on the common dialect of Serbo-Croatian, Shtokavian. This dialect is also the basis of other languages, such as, Standard Croatian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin. Serbs also speak in other dialects, one of which is the Torlakian dialect, which is spoken in southeastern Serbia.

The Serbian language is a relatively small language when compared to English, in terms number of Native Speakers, it only has 8.7 million people who speak it natively. The Serbian language is a part of the European language family, which includes other languages such as Slavic. The writing system of the Serbian language mainly uses the Latin script and Cyrillic writing styles. Although Serbian language authorities have recognized both of the scripts as official, the Cyrillic writing script is used by the Serbian administration, as it was named in the 2006 constitution. The alphabetical depends on which writing style you use.
