Description

The Turks and Caicos Islands is an overseas British Territory located in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is attached to the Bahamas, but is politically independent from them. The territory consists of eight major islands and 20 smaller ones. The Caicos Passage separates many of the islands from one another.

The islands consist of mainly low flat lands and marsh lands covered in limestone. Though for the most part hot, sunny, and dry in overall climate, the area is prone to hurricane activity, though with constant trade winds the climate is usually relatively comfortable. As such, the area suffers from limited freshwater resources, and relies a lot upon private and local water collection. Seafood is by far the main natural resource of the area, specifically lobster and shellfish.

Being a British Crown Colony, the Governor is appointed by the Queen who presides over an Executive Council elected through local self-government.
