THE MISSION AND PURPOSE OF THE NEW .WEBJET GTLD IS TO BENEFIT INTERNET USERS BY ENSURING INCREASED TRUST AND CONFIDENCE THROUGH THE ELIMINATION OF USER CONFUSION AND ASSURANCE OF BRAND AUTHENTICITY.

The new .webjet gTLD will operate as a restricted registry, in which Webjet Ltd. (Webjet) can create and control domain names that promote the identity and authenticity of its brand. In this regards, Webjet will use .webjet to provide information, services and resources to its customers in a way that delivers increased brand awareness, trust and convenience. The .webjet gTLD will provide an authoritative internet space for Webjet, its affiliates and partners that are associated with the brand. Second and third level domain names in the .webjet domain space will be utilised to tailor services and to engage customer on specific product categories, with internet users assured of brand authenticity.

Webjet is a global travel company and a licensed member of International Air Transport Association (IATA) offering online and mobile sale of flights, hotels, car hire, insurance and other travel related products and services. Webjet was established in 1998 and currently operates in Australia, New Zealand, UK, US, Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore. Webjet interacts with its customers primarily over the internet, with over 6 million site visits per month across all Webjet websites, or 70 million per annum. This interaction has resulted in over 902,000 flight transactions for the 12 months ended June 2011. Webjet's interaction with its customers online has been highly awarded, including; being named ‘Hitwise No. 1 Travel Agent' 9 times between 2007 and 2010, and being awarded ‘Travel Tech Travel Agency Website of the Year' in 2010, based on criteria of innovation, design, usability, speed, build quality and content. In this regard, consumer trust and continuous innovation with its online presence are paramount considerations in all its activities.

Business activities are increasingly conducted over the internet, allowing for greater levels of interaction between businesses and customers. As a result, both businesses and end users benefit from ease of interaction and a wider range of choices with lower transaction costs. However, the development in this arena in the current domain name system has exposed both businesses and consumers to increased criminal activities over the internet, including data breach, hacking and phishing. These sophisticated criminal activities cause reputational damage to businesses as internet users lose consumer confidence and trust with the businesses targeted by such criminal activities. The .webjet gTLD will facilitate greater trust and assurance from internet users connecting with Webjet online, whilst still allowing convenient and efficient interaction.

Webjet's mission and purpose of the proposed new gTLD share ICANN's initiatives to promote public interest. Webjet is committed to contribute towards achieving such initiatives in line with ICANN's Affirmation of Commitments, which includes:

- consumer trust: the .webjet gTLD registry will be operated in a centralised manner with restrictive registration policy. Registration of domain names will only be available to Webjet and its affiliate entities, which will provide added consumer trust that .webjet domain names are trustworthy. As .webjet domain names are subject to registration standards, policies and procedures under Webjet's control, this eliminates the possibility of malicious conduct within the .webjet domain space;

- competition: the proposed new gTLD is not intended to instigate competition and consumer choice among prospective registrants. Instead it is anticipated to contribute to such initiatives through its operation focused on promoting consumer trust. Increased trust in .webjet gTLD will drive existing and new top level domain (TLD) registry operators to make improvements in mechanisms to improve consumer trust of their TLDs; and

- consumer choice: the proposed new gTLD will enable user-driven improvements and innovations assisting Webjet's marketing efforts through its ability to create new second and third level domain names on demand. These names will provide the consumers with more choices for interacting with Webjet. As Webjet has effective control over the registration and use of domain names under .webjet domain space, this will also contribute towards general service innovations on the internet.

Given the restricted nature of the .webjet gTLD, the projected number of registration is likely to be limited. It is anticipated that a more limited number of domain names (around 20) will be registered in the first year. However, over the next few years, the number of registrations is likely to increase to about 60 to 100 domain names as new services and marketing campaigns are developed and implemented to raise awareness of the .webjet gTLD as a trusted site for internet users to interact with Webjet. Webjet will keep ICANN reasonably informed of any material developments relating to the .webjet gTLD, including compliance with the continued operations instrument obligations as set out in Specification 8 of the Registry Agreement. Further, Webjet will continue to comply with all operational, technical and policy requirements, as well as maintaining consumer trust and the stability of the internet.

Webjet will be able to create relevant domain names for use on demand, including product or service names in the second or third level domain. Webjet intends to use geographic names to localise its website in countries and regions where Webjet currently operates. The registration and use of geographic names will be in accordance with registration policies and the proposed measures for protection of geographic names as outlined in response to Question 22. The use of geographic names is intended to:

- connect internet users with relevant information as applicable to the territory; and

- comply with required rules and regulations in the national territory.

Webjet will also utilise Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) at the second level, initially in Chinese to provide relevant information in the local language of its customers. The use of IDNs will allow internet users to engage with .webjet in their native language, creating a more positive user experience and encourage diversity. As the use of the .webjet gTLD evolves, it is anticipated that the use of IDNs, including additional languages may increase within the .webjet domain space.

Webjet is a well-recognised global brand with its trademarks registered in 30 countries and territories (including Australia, New Zealand, US and the European Community Trade Mark), for the following categories: Booking and reservation services including flight/seat reservation for air travel, car hire, travel agent services, including all the aforementioned services online in class 39 (class 39) and Hotel and accommodation reservation services including provision of these services online being services in class 43 (class 43).
